How to Live With Your Allergies

Allergies may be as simple as itchy, watery eyes and a runny nose, or they could be something more serious such as an asthma attack or anaphylactic shock. No matter which route your allergies take you, they are at best uncomfortable and at worst life shattering. However, you can learn to live with them.

There are several things that may be needed, depending on the severity and the type of allergy. You may need to use more than one of the tips below.

These may help you stay clear eyed and breathing easily.

1) Find out what you’re allergic to. That may sound like a given, but it may not be as simple as you think. Pollen from trees, flowers, herbs and grasses differ to a certain degree. Pet fur and/or dander can be problematic and so can the excretions of some pocket pets, like hamsters. You may find yourself more allergic to one than to another. You could even skip a few variations.

There are more things that cause allergies than pollen. For respiratory allergies, smog, perfumes, cleaning products and some foods can be the problem source. If your allergy runs to hives, it is most likely to something you’ve had to eat or drink such as strawberries, seafood and some herbal preparations. Having the testing done will make things more simple.

2) Deep clean: This may not be needed for all allergies, but if your problem is pet or dust related, a regular deep cleaning of your house is a good idea. Make sure to do carpets, under beds, window coverings, the whole nine yards. You’ll want to use caution choosing cleaning products, but the testing should help you find one that won’t be a problem.

3) Lose the scents. I’m not only talking about perfumes, though that can be a must for some people, I’m talking about all the scented products in the house. Since we stopped using laundry soap and dryer sheets with dyes and perfumes, allergy symptoms have dropped dramatically. When I choose something scented, I use essential oils that I know we aren’t allergic to.

4) Follow the doctor’s orders: That may be harder than you think. Those allergic to peanuts know this all too well; it’s not always obvious the allergen is in a food item. There are a lot of medications that can make things easier and prevent more serious outcomes, but multiple drugs can be hard to remember, especially if they have to be taken at different times of the day.

Living with allergies isn’t easy, but we don’t have to let them progress, which they will if left untreated. Use these steps and you may find yourself breathing easier.

Effective Bacterial Vaginosis Remedies

Bacterial vaginosis is a type of vagina infection in which there is a surge in the number of anaerobic bacteria which can change the pH of the environment. This disease is characterized by the production of vaginal discharge which is smelly and has a fishy odor. This is a highly embarrassing condition which is also uncomfortable as there is accompanying soreness, itchiness, inflammation and pain. The best bacterial vaginosis remedies are the natural ones as these do not cause any undesirable side effects and are extremely safe for use.

In a normal female vagina, there is a balance maintained between the various bacterial flora. But sometimes this balance gets affected and the bad organisms multiply faster causing the infection. The main reasons for this include repeated intercourse within short periods of time, moisture, use of chemicals and long term use of antibiotics that can destroy the good bacteria. Hence the best bacterial vaginosis remedies are those which can turn this balance around and destroy only the disease-causing organisms.

Yoghurt tops the list of natural bacterial vaginosis remedies as it is extremely effective in alleviating the symptoms of this infection. This can be used as a part of your daily diet or inserted into the vagina by spreading it on a tampon. Either way, it is highly beneficial in reducing the number of harmful bacteria and restoring the pH of the environment. Garlic is another substance that can be either used orally as a supplement or as a suppository and is extremely useful in reducing the discomfort.

Medicinal herbs and oils also make good bacterial vaginosis remedies like calendula, tea tree oil, black walnut, Echinacea and goldenseal. These are commonly and easily available with all herbalists and most of these can be had as a supplement or diluted with water and applied to the area. Boric acid douches can also be used to acidify the vaginal pH but care must be taken to dilute this acid with water in the right manner or you could get irritated skin. Make changes in your daily diet by including more fresh vegetables and cutting down on sugary and starchy foods as these can create a suitable environment for the bacterial multiplication.

Always remember to wear clean, comfortable and cotton panties and also maintain good toilet hygiene which is very important in tackling this condition. These bacterial vaginosis remedies are extremely easy to follow and very effective in doing away with this disease once and for all.

Implanted Contact Lens

The implanted contact lens (ICL) or phakic intraocular lens (phakic IOL) has been recently preferred over laser surgery for those with nearsightedness or myopia. However, it is not recommended for everyone. There are certain criteria for one to be a good candidate for ICL. There are risks involved in the procedure, too. A patient must carefully consider the following criteria and risks before opting for the implant.

At present, the use of implanted contact lens has been approved by the FDA only for adults aged 21 to 45. There are yet studies to be made for population under and over the given age criteria. People with refractive instability or those who have fluctuations in their vision often are not advised to have ICL. Fluctuations may be due to young age (those in early 20s or younger), certain diseases such as diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and medications. Having a disease or taking a medication that affects wound healing may slow down or prevent proper healing after the surgery. Certain eye conditions and characteristics also increase the risks for patients. These include low endothelial cell count, irregular astigmatism, large pupils, shallow anterior chamber, and abnormal iris. Those with glaucoma and cataract are also not recommended to undergo this surgery. People who are into sports with high risk of eye trauma may not opt for this procedure. The eyes become more sensitive and the implanted contact lens may be dislocated. Certain jobs also proscribe this kind of procedure. It is important to consult with the employer. Cost is also an issue since ICL surgery is more expensive than laser surgery. A good candidate must of course have the means to pay for the surgery. As of now, most, if not all, medical insurance do not cover for ICL procedure or any refractive surgery.

A good ICL surgery candidate must be aware of the risks. Complication may occur during or after the surgery. Since determining the right prescription is not 100% accurate all the time, there may be cases of overcorrection or undercorrection. Overcorrection is when the prescriptive power of the lens is too strong while undercorrection is the opposite. This can be resolved by replacing the implanted contact lens. Like any other surgery, there is also a risk for infections. It is also possible that the natural lens of the eye will be damaged during the procedure, though this is very rare. There is also a slight possibility that the lens will need to be repositioned in the future, thus requiring another surgery. Halos, glare, and double vision are also among the risks but are least expected with the newer types of ICL. Lastly, though cataract is expected for population above 65 years of age, ICL may cause a person to have cataract at an earlier age. Most of these complications rarely happen. Still, it is important to discuss the procedure and its risks with an expert doctor.

Meningeal Adhesion Release Adjustment

Definitions:

Meningeal (adjective) – referring to the covering of the brain and spinal cord, which protects and positions the spinal cord inside of the bony spinal column.

Adhesion (noun) – referring to two surfaces that stick together that should not under optimal physiological conditions.

Release (noun) – referring to action of getting rid of an adhesion through manipulative force.

Adjustment (noun) – the action that the body takes to correct itself with regard to proper spinal alignment during AND after a Meningeal Release.

Taking tension ‘out of the inside’ of the spine is probably the most important thing that a Chiropractor can do and yet is rarely done. Unfortunately, it is rarely taught and even more rarely practiced in regular Chiropractic practice. First a little bit of basic Chiropractic principle that is vital in understanding what I will write about on Meningeal Adhesions ahead.

When physical stresses (either sudden or long term) attack the structure of the body, and they are in great enough force that it cannot be absorbed efficiently by body, then effects take place. The main effect of this is something called a Subluxation. A subluxation is simply a bone of the spine that is out of its regular alignment enough to affect the nerves that travel between them. These nerves communicate to and from the brain (master control) to the entire body’s functions. So when the bones misalign enough, the nerves are affected in their communication, and over time, can develop much dysfunction in the body. These things include digestive problems, sinus irritation, and the more generally thought of ‘Body Pain’. Much of this dysfunction can arise slowly and hence get past our radar, until it’s suddenly a bigger problem that we must now see a specialist about. Unfortunately conventional “wisdom” guides individuals to see first a medical specialist, who will undoubtedly prescribe some form of medicine or surgery to mask the actual problem – a body not in proper communication with itself.

Now back to Meningeal Adhesions. To get, and HOLD, an adjustment, it must be complete. Traditional Chiropractic, without addressing the meningeal adhesion, is going to work for some, and not for others for this exact reason – Meningeal adhesions must be released.

Let’s take a look at what a Meningeal adhesion actually is. Dr. Breig, a neurosurgeon who studied neurological diseases in cadavers in the 50’s and 60’s, discovered the meningeal adhesion. What is interesting is that he also found them in his non-neurological diseased patients as well, the regular population. A Meningeal Adhesion is a stuck portion of the outside meningeal layer of the spinal cord, on the inside of the spinal column bone structure. It is caused over time, by inflammation and contact of the two surfaces. This creates tension on the inside of the spine, which then throws traditional Chiropractic adjustments out of place again, in a relatively much shorter time period, then if the tension was also taken out at the same time.

So this really is an article on one of the few essential pieces of the puzzle to HOLD a re-alignment procedure of the spine (see “Chiropractic Engineer for Hire” for another piece of the puzzle). Results are there to be obtained and the talk is true – ‘Help is possible’ – as told by traditional Chiropractors. It’s just not as certain when you leave out the VITAL pieces of the puzzle.

Popular Eye Care Treatments

Eye care is an important facet in our lives and that is why it is indispensable to maintain the health of our eyes. If not properly cared for then it may lead to certain diseases that can greatly affect your vision quality. People with various eye problems are unable to properly perform their daily activities, are faced with emotional stress and depression. Eye wears, eye surgeries and different eye care treatments work best in providing the perfect vision. Various safe eye care treatments are available today that help prevent eye diseases and related problems. This article will illustrate some of the most popular eye care treatments that can effectively maintain and improve the health of your eyes.

Laser Eye Treatment – Effective Solution for Treating Vision Problems

Laser eye treatment is used to treat many vision related problems like short sightedness, long sightedness and astigmatism. After getting laser eye treatment there will be no need to wear eye glasses or contact lenses to improve the distance vision. Indeed, it is the best alternative option for eye glasses or contact lenses. It is a reliable eye care treatment among several other surgeries available today. Millions of people have used laser treatment for their vision correction because of its fast recovery rate. Because of the accuracy of results, this treatment has become one of the most popular and commonly performed surgeries across the world.

Lasik Eye Surgery – Ideal Solution for Complete Vision Correction

Today, Lasik (Laser-assisted in situ Keratomileusis) eye surgery has become one of the ideal surgeries for laser vision correction. It is a type of refractive surgery that can effectively correct refractive errors. Although, this treatment is somewhat akin to other surgical procedures like photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), however, the patient’s recovery rate is faster in this. Lasik surgery is used to treat astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness). Basically in this surgical procedure the cornea is reshaped in order to get fine, sharp and better vision. This treatment greatly enhances the focusing power and visual acuity of the eyes, hence; providing autonomy from the need to wear eye glasses or contact lenses. It is a safe eye treatment that produces immediate results after the surgery with a fast recovery rate.

Laser Trabeculoplasty – Help Protect Vision

Laser trabeculoplasty is another eye surgery that can treat glaucoma by improving the drainage angle of the eyes. People who are facing the problem of open-angle glaucoma can easily be treated by this eye procedure. In this treatment a focused beam of light is transmitted into the eyes to treat the drainage angle, making it easier for fluids to ooze out of the front part of the eye, this in turn decrease the pressure. Generally, optometrists recommend this eye surgery for elderly with open-angle glaucoma who are unable to use any medication to treat the condition. However, recommendations may vary depending upon the type and stage of glaucoma as well as some other factors.

Why does my back hurt?

As we’ve previously mentioned, many Americans suffer from back pain at some point in their lives – 8 in 10 of us roughly. For some, back pain is chronic and severe enough to lead them to seek medical help and for a percentage of people that back pain is symptomatic of a larger health issue.

Fortunately for us, most back pain is temporary and easily alleviated. Back pain sometimes comes about because we have been sitting hunched in front of a computer for many hours, for others because of strenuous physical labor. For the easy fixes, exercise, a back pain brace or another simple fix can quickly lessen your pain.

Some common causes of back pain can be easily identified so as to make them avoidable – or, at least, fixable.

Strained muscles: the most common cause of back pain is an injury to a muscle (strain) or a ligament (sprain). Muscle strains cause up to 85% of back pain experienced. How do you pull a muscle? By overloading it. When you overstretch a muscle, you essentially tear it which causes inflammation, muscles spasms and pain. Lifting heavy weights, pulling on your back instead of using your legs and abs, unexpected twisting or falling down are some of the ways in which back muscles can be pulled.

Muscle overuse: overusing your muscles means that one group of muscles is being held in tension for too long – this occurs when you remain in one position for too long (such as sitting down) or only work out one muscle group to the detriment of others. The body was made to move and our multiple muscle groups have distinct duties – when one muscle or group of muscles is forced to work harder and/or longer than others, they tire and cause us pain. Lumbar support can often alleviate lower back pain due to poor posture or prolonged seating, while other back brace and supports can help mid-torso pains.

Nerve pressure: pressure on the nerve roots in the spinal canal can be caused by a herniated disc in the lower back. Herniated discs occur when repeated vibration or motion are applied to the back. Sometimes herniated discs occur simply because of old age due to normal wear and tear as vertebrae and spinal discs become less flexible. In most cases, symptoms of a herniated disc can be managed with nonsurgical treatment and will go away over time.

Stress: it is well documented that stress wreaks physical havoc on the body – from gastrointestinal disturbances to headaches. Add back pain to that list too. Tension caused by stress and internal turmoil can manifest itself along your spine and cause pain. Acupuncture, exercise, meditation and yoga have all been shown to help as has physical therapy which can be undertaken for as little as two months with results.

Of course, back pain that is extreme in discomfort, prolonged, or accompanied by other symptoms (fever, vomiting etc) ought to be checked out by a doctor to ensure that more serious conditions are not an issue.

Note: This information is not intended to supplement or replace advice from a medical professional, or to diagnose or treat any condition.

Get Rid of Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids refer to the swelling of veins found in the anus or in the rectal area. They cause extreme discomfort accompanied by pain and itching. It is a common ailment affecting men and women alike. If you are a victim of this dreaded health condition, better know how to get rid of hemorrhoids before they can do more damage.

Hemorrhoids are divided into categories, namely internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids occur in the walls of the anus while external hemorrhoids form in the skin surrounding the rectum. They are caused by poor hygiene, too much straining during bowel movement, and for women, straining during delivery. In some cases, standing and sitting too long can also trigger veins to swell.

These painful and irritating inflamed veins can greatly affect your health and performance. They can make you irritable and too weak to do your regular activities. Luckily, you can get rid of hemorrhoids in many ways. Patients use different means to get rid of hemorrhoids and here are some of them:

• Surgery
You can actually get rid of hemorrhoids through surgery. You may choose from having them removed through rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or hemorrhoidectomy. The operation can be done in a short period of time though they can be expensive. You can always ask your doctor about which method is best for you. Surgery is by far the fastest and most effective way to get rid of hemorrhoids.

• Pads and creams
Hemorrhoidal pads and creams are also effective use if you want to get rid of hemorrhoids. You can use the pads to clean your rectum after passing stool. They are better than using tissue papers which can leave residues behind and irritate the hemorrhoids. Meanwhile, creams can give you instant relief from the pain and itch caused by hemorrhoids. Make sure that the area is clean before applying it.

• Proper hygiene
Perhaps the most practical way to get rid of hemorrhoids is proper hygiene. Take a warm bath daily but if it isn’t advisable, you can dip the affected area in warm water. Avoid using soap since it is an irritant that can only make hemorrhoids swell even more. Use plain water to wash the affected area and pat it dry with a hemorrhoidal pad or a soft towel. If possible, air-dry it using your hair dryer.

• Fiber-rich diet
A fiber-rich diet can get rid of hemorrhoids. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables rich in fiber can make your stool softer and easier to eliminate. At the same time, it cleanses the body of toxins which can clog the colon and worsen hemorrhoids.

• Home remedies
Apply hot compress on the affected area to relieve pain, redness, and itching. Another option is to use a sitz bath at least three times a day.

If you find it hard to get rid of hemorrhoids, immediately seek the advice of your doctor. Hemorrhoids can spread and even bleed if they are not treated properly and fast. Find means to get rid of hemorrhoids right away once you notice its symptoms.

Stressed Out All of the Time?

Are you stressed out all of the time? Does it seem that you always have headaches and the muscles in your neck and back are tight especially after sitting in front of a computer all day? Then a massage may be the perfect solution for you. Massage therapy relaxes the muscles, increases blood flow, and soothes your aches and pains. Additionally, massages rejuvenate the body and gives us an overall sense of well being.

There are a variety of massage therapies out there, from the basic Swedish massage to specialty massages. If you are in need of some deep relaxation, then a hot stone massage might be perfect for you. Although the hot stone massage is a little more expensive than the traditional Swedish massage, it is worth the extra money.

A hot stone massage is a type of specialty massage using smooth, heated stones. The stones used for this type of massage are about the size and shape of an egg, except flatter. They are smooth, flat stones, something like river rocks but are typically made of a black volcanic rock called basalt. Basalt rocks absorb and retain heat well.

The stones are an excellent way to use heat to improve the massage. Heat is not only relaxing, but it also helps to release the tightness of muscles. The massage therapists typically pre-warm the stones in hot water or some other heating device so that the stones are at a hot, but not unbearable, temperature. The massage therapists handle the stones before placing them on the client’s back; this helps ensure the temperature is perfect.

Typically the massage therapist begins the massage with the normal relaxing Swedish massage and then begins to massage the patient with the heated stones. As the stones cool, the therapist replaces them with more heated ones. Sometimes the therapist will also lay heated stones down the spine as she massages you with the other stones.

The therapist massages the client with the oiled, heated stones. Holding them in the palm of the hand, the therapist uses long, firm strokes along the muscles of the client’s legs, arms, and torso areas. The heat and pressure relaxes the client and releases the tension in the muscles.

Basically, the stones provide heat for extra relaxation to the client, while also allowing the massage therapist to penetrate deeper into the muscle tissue with the stones. The massage should not be painful, so if the client ever feels uncomfortable, the client should speak up.

There are a variety of reasons why you might want to try the hot stone massage over other massage techniques. First, many clients find the hot stones to be very relaxing; the heat penetrates their tight muscles and provides more relaxation than just a typical massage. Additionally, clients sometimes prefer the hot stone massage to alleviate Back pain and aches, stress, anxiety, or tension, or to help improve poor circulation. Sometimes clients find the massage helps with insomnia, as it is very relaxing.

Cataract Prevention

Cataracts is the clouding of the lens due to changes in the protein. This affects sharpness of vision and color perception. The lens sits behind the iris. Light passes through this clear part of the eye and then focuses light, or an image, on the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.

The lens must be clear for the retina to receive a sharp image. If the lens is cloudy from a cataract, the image you see will be blurred. Often the cataract will grow larger and cloud more of the lens.

Cataract Causes

Free radicals cause damage to the lens and to the macula (the small center in the retina) as a result of oxidation. Oxidation leaves the body with thousands of unbalanced electrons. These unstable electrons bring damage to our cells and especially to the lens of the eye and the macula where there is a lot of oxidation.

Keeping our free radicals in balance is extremely critical in the prevention of cataracts, macular degeneration, degenerative diseases, cancer and in the aging battle.

Some of this is a normal part of the aging process, but there are other factors that can cause cataracts to develop earlier. They are:

  • Smoking
  • Ultraviolet Light
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Cataract Prevention
Prevention of cataracts may not be possible, but it may be possible to delay the development of cataracts through a healthy lifestyle. Take these steps to help protect the lens of your eye:

Protect your eyes from ultraviolet light.

√ Wear 100% UV protected sunglasses and wide brim hats

√ Avoid the sun from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

√ Do not use tanning beds

You don’t need to buy expensive sunglasses to get good protection.

    Quit smoking.

Smoking causes free radicals to form and decreases the level of antioxidants in the blood. Now we have more free radicals than what can be disarmed by the circulating antioxidants. These free radicals through a cascading series of chemical reactions bring disease and aging to our bodies.

Many common eye diseases are associated with smoking. Normally we think of the lungs as being the most affected organ. The health of our bodies and our eyes – including the macula and the lens – depends on healthy circulation. Smoking promotes atherosclerosis or a hardening of blood vessels – including the fragile ocular (eye) capillaries.

Eat antioxidant rich foods and foods high in lutein.

Antioxidants are nutrients that help prevent diseases like macular degeneration and cataracts by disarming the free radicals. Free radicals form as a result of normal body mechanisms. It is when the ratio of free radicals to antioxidants gets out of balance that diseases can develop. Include antioxidant rich foods in your diet to help fight free radicals.

Zeaxanthin with lutein are powerful antioxidants that protect our eyes from the damages of free radicals. Here is the conclusion of a study that was reported on in January 2008.

The prospective observational data from a large cohort of female health professionals reported:

“higher dietary intakes of lutein/zeaxanthin and vitamin E from food and supplements were associated with significantly decreased risks of cataract.”

    Neck Pain and Its Causes

You might feel a click from some part of your neck when you wake up, or perhaps you find it difficult to move to one side. Other times you can’t even get to do what you need to do for the day because of a burning or shooting pain from your neck running down to your arms or back. Perhaps each one of us has experienced neck pain once or too many in our lives. Whichever symptoms you may have felt, they will all tell you one thing – neck pain is not just any ordinary pain that can easily be figured out. It is but one part with a collection of complexities in terms of what causes it to hurt, and how to treat and manage it.

To better decide which approach or regime to utilize, it is always wise to determine the underlying cause of the neck pain. Ultimately, knowing the root of the problem will consequently lead us to planning the appropriate treatment options.

Tension. This isn’t unfamiliar to those who work round the clock most of their lives, or to the construction workers, office employees, or even the stay-at-home moms tending to their children and keeping up with the house chores at the same time. Stress, overuse, and emotional and physical tension are major factors that lead to a muscle strain and sprain in the neck. Most often than not, sitting for long periods of time or in a slouched position can also cause a burning pain that stretches into the entire back. For the moms, too much bending and improper shift in positions may strain the muscles of the neck and back. Untreated tension from muscle strain and overuse precedes neck pain and spinal misalignment.

Age. It may be true that “age is but a number”, but apparently along with the number is the potential risk for long term neck pain due to osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. They may appear, in some people, inevitably, because of heredity or familial tendencies. Other risk factors associated with age are loss of flexibility and elasticity of the spine. Stenosis, on the other hand, occurs as a result of loss of nerve function due to impingement. These disorders have different mechanisms but may all lead to neck, arm, and shoulder pain.

Injury. Whiplash is the most predominant example of an injury that results to severe neck pain. It is a sudden forceful movement of the cervical spine in the forward or backward direction. Neck pain is due to the damage that the whipping action has caused to the supporting tissues of the neck, such as the nerves and the muscles. This further leads to disuse and stiffness.
    Pain medication Mexico
Several alternative treatments have been formulated and performed to treat, manage, and avoid the deleterious long-term effects of neck pain. Doctors have recommended conservative regimes that do not require people to take medications every time they experience neck pain, and they have been proven and tested to be effective and ultimately not dangerous to one’s health. These are acupuncture, massage, yoga and pilates, and chiropractic care.

    Managing Colic With Homeopathy

Colic accounts for one of the most dreaded pain types in most patients. The intensity is really very devastating and the patient almost rolls on the floor to get relief. Colic refers to the pain originating from a tubular structure. Thus, we have renal colic originating from the ureters, biliary colic from the biliary duct, and intestinal colic from the spasmodic affection of the large or small intestine. Usually the acute prescription in the colic state is fairly achieved by keynote method. In this article, we will discuss few of the prominent homeopathic remedies for managing colic.

Aconite: the colic causes intense panicky state in the patient. The patient looks pale and cold due to anxiety and can even faint more due to the anxiety than the pain. The pains are extreme and patient can’t bear to be in hot room, even though feels chilliness. The primary selection should be based on the anxiety, the absence of which contraindicates the remedy.

Belladonna: Severe colic associated with fullness in the stomach, flushing of the face and dilated pupils with full and bounding pulsations all over the body. The attack comes suddenly and progresses to the highest degree in a very short time. Pace, congestion and intensity indicates this remedy.

Chelidonium: suits to the patients of biliary colic who have fullness in right hypochondriac region with heavy flatulence and severe pain in abdomen precipitated by consumption of fatty food. The pain is situated around the back and radiates to the right shoulder. Pain is better by hot applications or after drinking very hot water. The remedy helps in the treatment of the gallstones, not only by relieving the pain but also by assisting the smooth passage of the gallstones.

Berberis: The most striking characteristic of berberis, in renal as well as biliary colic, is the pain radiating in all directions. It is mostly a left sided remedy. There is an intense urge to pass urine, which is quite painful. The pain shows marked aggravation from any kind of motion.

Colocynth and Mag-phos: both are useful in colic of any kind. They are quite identical in their symptom manifestations. In both cases, the pain is significantly relieved by external pressure and by warmth. Mag-phos shows more amelioration by rubbing the affected part, while the patient of colocynth prefers a steady yet firm pressure. In both cases, the colicky pain is intermittent. These drugs show a marked sensitivity to cold, especially in case of mag-phos. Colocynth colic is brought about by irritability or suppressed anger, even in case of a uterine colic. It is also a result of overeating cheese. I have seen wonderful results by Mag-phos in case of spasmodic dysmenorrheal, in young pubertal girls.

There are many more remedies like lycopodium, raphanus, ipecac and opium, that can be used effectively in colic. These remedies not only act fast but also give a mild, gentle and permanent relief.
