Make It: Place 6-8 rounded teaspoons of roots or bark in a non-aluminum pot and cover the herbs with two quarts cold water. The magnitude of lower back pain and neck pain in terms of suffering, medical costs, lost work time and wages, and disruption in the quality of life is absolutely staggering. Thirty-five million Americans are affected by these afflictions and the problem accounts for the country’s greatest health care expenditure, at $60 billion annually. Lower back pain and neck pain are the second most common reason for medical office visits(just behind the common cold) and the number one cause of lost work time and disability claims. Each year, 83 million days of work are lost, and back and neck pain sufferers spend 200 million days in bed. These patients spend almost two and a half times as much on health care as other patients, but those costs vary dramatically depending on socioeconomic and demographic influences and not on the condition itself. Lower back pain is the most common cause of inactivity in people under the age of forty-five. It is time we gave this epidemic our full attention. By doing so, we can help to loosen its grip on our society.

If you are like most people who have either lower back pain or neck pain, you have probably tried several different therapies over the years and have sometimes received some temporary relief. You have also gotten several different diagnoses, various explanations, and conflicting opinions, some from medical professionals and many, many more from well-meaning friends. Massage therapists will rub a little, and though massage feels good, it has not been shown to influence the outcome one bit. Psychologists and psychiatrists–well, let’s just say that blaming your parents, your spouse, or your boss won’t make anyone feel better physically.

Now, it is not my intention to sit and bash respectable professionals, and there may be times when you will need some or all of them, but it has been my experience that they just have a hard time seeing beyond their own practices. So, if you really want help, and you do not mind doing some of the work yourself, then you need to do the necessary research to make an informed decision about your pain. After all, it is your back.

Allergy Basics – What Is an Allergy?

The human body has a complex immune system which helps it to fight infection. When infection attacks the body the immune system is triggered to produce antibodies. These antibodies have an individual ‘key’ to fit each individual infection. After exposure to a virus or bacteria, the immune system remembers this ‘key’. This protects the body from repeated infection from the same bacterium or virus. People who have allergies have an immune system that reacts to a usually harmless substance in the environment. This substance (pollen, mold, animal dander, etc.) is called an allergen.

What Happens During an Allergic Reaction?

The most common mechanism by which an environmental substance causes this kind of reaction involves antibodies, which are proteins formed by the immune system. The normal function of antibodies is to protect the body from infection by attacking and killing organisms like viruses and bacteria. In the case of allergy, the antibody is called immunoglobulin E, or IgE, and, rather than attaching itself to microorganisms, the antibody binds to normally harmless substances like pollen, dust mites, and animal danders.

Once IgE is formed in the bloodstream, it seeks out and binds to a type of cell called a mast cell, which is located in the mucous membrane of the eyes, nose, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract as well as skin. If the person is then re-exposed to that same allergen, the mast cell is triggered within a few minutes to release a variety of chemicals, including histamines, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins. These chemicals, which are also referred to as mediators of the allergic response, are responsible for the symptoms that patients develop after exposure to allergens.

Symptoms of an Allergic Reaction

Common symptoms of an allergic reaction to inhaled or skin allergens include:

  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Itchy, runny nose
  • Rashes
  • Feeling tired or ill
  • Hives (a rash with raised red patches)

Common allergies and their symptoms can manifest anytime and anywhere so if you have allergic reactions to some types of foods, smell, pollen and others, you need to be very careful and avoid your allergy triggers. Note that some common allergies and their symptoms can cause some complications in your body. Once medical complications happen, danger comes in. 7 Steps To Weeding Out Your Migraines

What you’ve just done by crossing out the thought is you have become aware of the ‘weed’ and have cut it – it’s weak now in the garden of your mind but the roots are still there and will grow back if you are not vigilant and take steps to weed out these thoughts.

7. To begin ‘weeding out’ these thoughts, for each of these thoughts, ask yourself ‘is this true?’ and if it is, then you ask yourself ‘do I want this to be true from now on?’ and you are on your way to pulling up the roots!

And one final step:

8. Now that you have some spare in your ‘mental garden’ why not use it to put better, nicer more empowering thoughts in your mind.

You’ll know they are better by how they make you feel. If the thought makes you feel slightly better, you know you are on the right track. If the thought drags you down, then that’s an indication that it’s bringing you back into a swampy-migraine state and that a better thought exists. Create sweet-smelling thoughts, plant them in your mind, keep weeding out the weeds… and oh, don’t forget to drink water!

By seating your toddler, you can easily spot if he has problems on the neck and spine. Inability to turn his head in both directions implies that he has some sensitivity or soreness making him not to turn on the other direction.

Some activities, which were received by the toddler when he was an infant, also contribute to his having vertebral misalignment.

Parents may not know but the manner of changing the nappies put strain on the vertebra of your infant. Just try to recall how it is done – we raise both feet using just one hand while the other is busy removing the nappy and cleaning the baby. This is done repeatedly straining the spine of your infant. Just try to recall your infant’s position when you change nappies – is it not very awkward?

Picking him up by his arms or shoulders can also strain the vertebra.

Infants must learn how to crawl first before learning how to walk. However, some parents are so excited that they encourage their children to walk at an early age. One activity must be mastered first before jumping into another — we all know this! Again, this forced action stresses his spinal cord.

Once the crawling stage was preempted by walking, the baby loses so much body coordination, which is all-important for his development. Such body coordination that gets affected are eye and hand synchronization, good hand grasp and visual perception, good right and left brain dexterity, communication and enhanced muscle growth all over the body.

Rushing an infant or toddler to activities that is beyond his capability put so much strain on his spinal column that can lead to further irritation. If this is not corrected, the toddler will have more problems that can hinder his performance.

Hence, chiropractic adjustments can give much benefit to toddlers suffering from these misalignments. A toddler with spinal subluxations will have to be seen by a chiropractor for him to have a healthy life.
